Twilight at Monticello - An Evening with Thomas Jefferson

This two act theatrical presentation invites its audience to return time to a Spring Evening in 1821, to pass an unforgettable and thought-provoking evening in the company of our nation's third president, experiencing "an intimate encounter with the man who defined American Independence"

Set in the "twilight" of his life, Mr. Jefferson speaks candidly of the achievements by which he wishes most to be remembered, and also of his failure to bring an end to slavery. He also speaks optimistically of his vision of what America's independence means to those who long for freedom, and of the eventual spread of democracy throughout the world.

While doing so, he also reflects on events in his private life, sharing memories of his education and his family, and his opinions on a variety of topics. He also provides first-hand recollections of the people, events, and ideas which shaped not only our country's early years, but also its enduring ideals.

An Evening with Thomas Jefferson

While Twilight at Monticello: An evening with Thomas Jefferson is always well-received, it has also been found that, when presented in tandem with a "Jeffersonian Dinner" - featuring items that would have been served at Mr. Jefferson's table at Monticello - the evening is always a particular success. As such, it is also particularly well suited as a fund-raising event.

This two act abridgement of Twilight at Monticello has been specifically designed for this purpose, allowing its audience to enjoy a uniquely intimate evening in the company of our nation's third president. As in the full-length version of the play, An Evening with Thomas Jefferson allows "Mr. Jefferson" the opportunity to engage his guests in a Question & Answer session, and concludes with his inspiring vision of his hope for America's future.

An Encounter with Thomas Jefferson

This one hour presentation, intended primarily for libraries, schools, and other organizations where time is a consideration, allows its audience to experience a brief - yet up- close - encounter with "Mr. Jefferson" as he presents both the story of the Declaration of Independence, and of his failure to bring an end to slavery. He also speaks of his enduring hope for the spread of self government throughout the world.

A Question & Answer session with "Mr. Jefferson" may also be incorporated into this program if time allows. Both a Teachers' Study guide and informal classroom discussions with the actor are also available.

(NOTE: An Encounter with Thomas Jefferson has also been presented successfully as part of a "Jeffersonian Dinner." An Informational "Notes for Hosting a Jeffersonian Dinner" is available upon request.)

Your Keynote Speaker: Mr. Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson was a man of wide-ranging interests and opinions. He was an architect, archeologist, educator, farmer, lawyer, naturalist, politician, religious philosopher, and statesman. As such, "Mr. Jefferson" is also an ideal keynote speaker for your trade group or association, addressing topics specific to the interests of your organization.

Such presentations are custom-desinged for the organization and the event, thus assuring your group a unique encounter with "the man who defined American Independence."
